THE CANCER THAT IS CHINA
A Taiwanese Physician’s Prescription
(Namiki Shobo)
Lin Jianliang
Series No.6 CHAPTER 5: CAN JAPAN METAMORPHOSE
INTO BLACK JACK?

May 20, 2019

The author asserts that the Japanese cannot possibly overcome the cancer that is China unless they revolutionize their current system and ideology. Japan must become “Black Jack”.
Black Jack, the protagonist of a comic book series of the same name created by Tezuka Osamu, is not an overachiever who is a member of a physicians’ association. Nor is he an upstanding member of the medical community, he is in fact a thorn in its side. He is immune to criticism. His methods are unorthodox, his ideas and philosophy are daring. Black Jack is determined to cure illnesses he encounters, no matter the means, and his treatments accord with his personal values.
As a physician, who chose his vocation after reading Black Jack, the author is always pondering, “What would my teacher do?”
This book is the culmination of such thinking. He concludes that “There is only one way to keep the China cancer from growing and spreading: neutralize China by breaking it up into smaller components.” He presents five prescriptions for dividing China and rendering it harmless:

1. Demand that China democratize.
2. Demand that China permit freedom of speech.
3. Enact a Chinese law for human rights.
4. Demand that China resolve its environmental problems.
5. Enact a Japanese version of the Taiwan Relations Act.

They are all realizable—if one has the determination to do so. They will be beneficial to the Chinese people and to the people of the world as well.
