Statement from iRICH:

We welcome Prime Minister Abe’s speech on the 100th Anniversary of Japan’s proposal to the League of Nations to eliminate racial discrimination

On October 4, 2019, Prime Minister Abe made a very important remark within his speech opening the 200th session of the Diet. He referred to the 100th anniversary of Japan’s proposal to eliminate racial discrimination:

A hundred years ago, the Afro-American Newspaper reported Japan’s proposal at the Paris Peace Conference: “After a disastrous War that claimed as many as ten million lives, how are we to create a new world? As an ideal toward a new era and a new principle looking into future, Japan upheld ‘racial equality.’”
With European and American colonies all over the world at the time, Japan’s proposal for racial equality was met with strong oppositions from many countries. However, Japan never backed down. Before delegations from countries around the world, Japan’s plenipotentiary Nobuaki Makino dauntlessly declared:
“We understand that the world is now under difficult circumstances, but there are no walls we cannot overcome.”
The lofty ideal that Japan held at the time has today, after centuries, become a basic principle of the International Covenants on Human Rights and of the entire international community.
We, the living today, should equally hold this ideal for Japan to follow as a nation, in this new era of Reiwa, looking into future.

International Research Institute of Controversial Histories (iRICH) has worked to proclaim this significant hundredth anniversary, domestically and internationally. We, the Society for the Dissemination of Historical Fact, have worked with iRICH on this project. On November 14, 2018, we held a conference commemorating the 100th anniversary, hosting Mr. Senaka Weeraratna, a lawyer and Buddhist activist, from Sri Lanka, as a keynote speaker. He stated Japan’s enormous contribution to the liberation of Asian and African colonies from European rule.
iRICH deeply appreciates Prime Minister Abe’s acknowledgement of the 100th anniversary of Japan’s proposal to eliminate racial discrimination and issued a statement.
