① Affidavit prepared by Lieutenant-General KAYAJIMA, Takashi

This is the second of a series of articles pertaining to the Tongzhou Massacre submitted for inclusion in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register; affidavits from official record of the Tokyo Trials.
The affidavit number one is prepared by Lieutenant-General Kayajima, who was Commander of the Tientsin Infantry Unit and Commander of the 2nd Infant Regiment stationed in China.
On July 28, 1937, he was engaged in the fighting in Nanyan south of Peking, as commander of the main regiment. At 3:00 a.m. on the 30th, he was ordered to rescue the Japanese people in Tongzhou, where a disturbance had broken out. He hurried to Tongzhou at 3:30 a.m., at the head of the main regiment. He testified what he saw at Tongzhou in the affidavit. (Translation into English was done by Defense Language Branch of the Court).
